Help us slice and dice veggies for client meals!

Our holiday volunteer shifts in San Francisco and Oakland fill fast, so register now. Come as an individual, with your family or with a company team. We also have volunteer opportunities for kids. Sign up now: Call our volunteer hotline at 415-447-2404.

“We especially need volunteers on the days just before and just after Thanksgiving and Christmas day, when many of our staff and longtime volunteers are out of town,” says Artrese Morrison, Director of Volunteer Services.

Craft Holiday Cards for our Clients
Indulge your love of crafting by creating handmade holiday cards for Project Open Hand clients. This is a great project for kids, youth groups and classrooms, who want to give back to our community. Please send cards with “happy greetings” and “thinking of you” messages; please avoid sharing wishes to “get well.” Do not include “Project Open Hand” in the card, and refrain from using religious content, as our clients come from a variety of backgrounds.

Send handmade holiday cards to:

Knit or Crochet Scarves
Last winter, 50 volunteers knit more than 300 scarves for our East Bay clients. They’re at it again this year! If you would like to join our merry knitters by contributing knitted or crocheted scarves, please contact Chip Rath at [email protected] The deadline for donating scarves is December 4.

Spread holiday cheer by serving meals to seniors

Serve Meals to Seniors
Help create a festive atmosphere for our elderly clients by setting up the dining room and serving meals with a smile. Shifts are available at senior lunch sites in San Francisco and Alameda Counties. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and must sign up in advance.

Slice and Dice in our Kitchen
Work with a team of chefs, cooks, and other volunteers to peel and chop vegetables, assist with food prep, or help package daily meals. Volunteer shifts in our kitchen are open to people 15 years and older. All volunteers must sign up in advance.

Make a New Year’s Resolution to Volunteer
Project Open Hand relies on more than 100 volunteers every single day to help us provide 2,500 nutritious meals and 400 bags of groceries to our clients. Please consider supporting us by volunteering in San Francisco and Oakland after the holiday season.
