Valentine’s Day Cards for Seniors in Need

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the Young Professionals Council (YPC) organized a fun evening of crafting (see pictures here!) to create Valentine’s Day cards for Project Open Hand’s Senior Lunch Program. The group decorated over 150 cards and handed them out on Valentine’s Day to seniors at the Curry Senior Center in San Francisco.

The thought behind this event was to send a little love to our neighbors who might not always have visitors or company with them, and this is just a little reminder that they always have support and love, especially during such a sweet holiday.

Project Open Hand’s Senior Lunch ProgramProject Open Hand has been serving up warm, nutritious meals to the elderly since 1998. Today, with 16 sites across the city, this program strives to help the elderly who suffer from food insecurity. For some recipients of the program, one meal might be the only thing they eat that day. The program also allows seniors to socialize with volunteers and other seniors, a much-needed part of their overall well being.

The YPC is working on more volunteer opportunities to support Project Open Hand’s Senior Lunch Program, and we plan to share our stories with you soon. The YPC volunteers from past visits have shared wonderful memories from their visits at the Curry Center, and we continue to strive to support this great program in the future.
