Plate to Plate 2008
Sunday, August 24, 2008
Project Open Hand and the San Francisco Giants held its second annual Plate to Plate 5K Run/Walk presented by AT&T on Sunday, August 24, 2008. Over 2,600 participants came out to participate in the second running of this event. At exactly 9 a.m., the starter gun fired and folks were off on their 5K adventure down the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building and back down to AT&T Park where each participant had the unique opportunity to run across Home Plate! We had 160 corporate and non-corporate teams participate as well! Congratulations are in order for the top fundraisers for the event: Team Macy*s was our top team fundraiser raising an amazing $8,304 for Project Open Hand’s meal and nutrition services. Cristina Solorio was our top individual fundraiser for the second year in a row with a total fundraised amount of $10,870! Overall, the event raised an incredible $300,000 for our meal and nutrition services.
A huge thank you to our corporate sponsors, without whom this event would not have been possible: AT&T, FedEx, Crunch Gym, Greendropoff, Catholic Healthcare West, Joie de Vivre Hotels, Lawson Drayage, Inc., Sports Basement, Ghirardelli Square, George Weston Bakeries, Inc., Shell Vacations Club, St. Jude Medical, and Whole Foods Market; and thanks to our media sponsors: Comcast Sportsnet, SF Examiner, San Francisco Magazine, Energy 92.7 FM, The Wolf, KDFC and KOIT. Many of our sponsors were present at the post-race festival where participants enjoyed food from local vendors such as MoMo’s Restaurant and were entertained by the very talented Liverwire Band. Afterward, all participants were able to enjoy watching the Giants beat the San Diego Padres at AT&T Park as part of their event day activities.
Congratulations to all who participated and fundraised for POH! We look forward to seeing you on August 30, 2009 for the third annual Plate to Plate 5K Run/Walk.
