Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2005
July 9-10, 2005
Project Open Hand staff and volunteers were in full force to cheer on over 1900 walkers for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on July 9th and 10th. Walkers from all around the country gathered in San Francisco to walk 39.3 miles over the course of the weekend and raised over $4,000,000 for Breast Cancer research and care.
Project Open Hand cheer teams were stationed at 9 different stops along the route and passed out scrumptious chocolate chip cookies baked in our own kitchen and invited walkers
to write a message on our banner that will be displayed in our offices throughout the year.

The San Jose police department volunteered their time to patrol the entire route
and even took the time to pose for pictures with our cheer teams. |
The 26-member "Team Penny" walked in memory of Penny Fernandez, 51, a San Francisco resident who died six weeks before the walk.
Many of the walkers, who raised $82,000, became friends through their children. |
