Flowers From The Heartland
August 8, 2004

On August 8, 2004, Project Open Hand was the beneficiary of the world premiere of Flowers from the Heartland, an independent 25 minute documentary from Bay Area film professional Peter Daulton that tells the story of how one person from Minnesota's idea to send flowers of support to gay and lesbian couples waiting in line to get married at San Francisco's City Hall blossomed into an online movement that resulted in thousands of flowers being sent from all over the country.

Shot in February and March 2004, the film includes footage of flowers being delivered to City Hall and interviews with people from the midwest who sent flowers, including the person who started the whole idea. Some of the people interviewed in the film were present in person at the event.

If you missed seeing the film then, DVDs of "Flowers from the Heartland" are now available at Amazon.com for $15.99. For more information please go to their newly updated web site at www.flowersfromtheheartland.com.
