Chinese New Year in the Grocery Center
On Thursday, February 7th, Project Open Hand hosted a Chinese New Year celebration for our Breast Cancer clients in the San Francisco Grocery Center. Everyone was in good spirits, and clients enjoyed tea and traditional delicacies, fruit and pastries while filling out their grocery selections. We started this celebration in 2007 because the majority of the clients in the Breast Cancer program were Chinese American and in order to thank them for helping us build the program in the first place, and it happened again this year because our clients asked for it.

In the Grocery Center, grocery options are laid out on the table according to its corresponding letter on the selection sheet clients use when picking out their groceries for the week. This helps clients see exactly what they are getting. |
A few spouses of our clients were able to attend the celebration as well and were able to enjoy the tea and treats as well. |

There was plenty of activity as clients came, enjoyed wonderful food, and picked out their groceries.

There was plenty for all! |

This week’s grocery selections included fresh and nutritious bell peppers, cabbage, carrots, oranges, potatoes, onions, and bananas. |
Smiles abound as Grace Wong, Projects Coordinator for the Breast Cancer program (left) and clients talked and ate. |
