We invite you to join the POH team at this year’s AIDS Walk San Francisco event, which will be celebrated online on Sunday, July 19 with scheduled performances and appearances by: Bette Midler, Gloria Estefan, Vanessa Williams, Laura Linney, Matt Bomer, Alex Newell, Skylar Astin, Alan Cumming, stars from “Queer Eye” and more. Join our team and encourage your friends to participate in the event by watching the entertaining program and then walking on your own for your personal health and wellness and to support POH.
This year we are setting our sights with a goal of raising $30,000 online to provide thousands of life-sustaining meals for the critically ill and vulnerable amidst the current COVID-19 crisis.
POH began as an AIDS service provider in 1985 in hopes that one day we would see an end to the illness. However, 35 years later, HIV/AIDS is still prevalent in the Bay Area and beyond. Now, the added risks of COVID-19 present even more challenges for those whose immune systems are compromised by HIV/AIDS, which is also the most common critical illness among our clients (40 percent).
One of the challenges this population faces is nutrition insecurity. Many of these individuals are sheltering in place or are unable to access healthy foods, which means they will not have the needed nutrition to manage and, most importantly, improve their health.
By registering with Project Open Hand and AIDS Walk SF, you are spreading awareness of agencies doing positive work for those affected by HIV/AIDS in the Bay Area community.
Help us continue our legacy of providing life-saving nutrition and support to the HIV/AIDS community. Sign up today at https://sf.aidswalk.net/POH. If you have questions about the event and how to support us, please contact me, Ellen Bialik, at 415-447-2320 or at [email protected]
