Position Summary

Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco and Alameda counties, engaging more than 200 volunteers weekly to nourish our community. 

Working under the leadership of the Manager, Volunteer Services, and in collaboration with agency leaders and partners, the Volunteer Coordinator recruits, schedules, and engages our incredible community of Volunteers. This is an ideal position for an energetic, confident, and organized individual with strong volunteer engagement skills who is passionate about mobilizing the community, building connections, and supporting Project Open Hand’s mission. 

Qualifications Required

  • Demonstrated progressive experience in coordinating volunteers 

  • Experience in outreach to potential volunteers, including corporations, schools, community organizations, etc. 

  • Previous knowledge and experience working with databases (Salesforce preferred) 

  • Team player and comfortable working in a fast-paced and culturally diverse environment 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with Volunteer Services team, Project Open Hand colleagues, clients, volunteers, and partners 

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to give and receive direction, provide feedback, lead by example, teach others, and take responsibility for actions 

  • Professional and respectful communication across all platforms: in person, phone (call and text), email, Teams, and other messaging applications 

  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work at the SF and Oakland locations, event locations, occasional nights, weekends and holidays 

Qualifications Desired

  • Degree in social services, or equivalent work experience 

  • Fluent in written and oral Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese or Vietnamese   

  • Experience with Volunteer for Salesforce and Nonprofit Cloud
