Home > Blog > More choice on the menu: Listening to what our clients want

At Project Open Hand, we believe food is medicine—and a source of dignity, choice, and connection. Since April, clients at our 730 Polk Street location have been able to select individual meals from our menu, giving them greater flexibility while helping us better understand their preferences and reduce food waste.

We’re already learning from their choices: individual meal orders have steadily increased, vegetarian meal orders grew 59.3% from Q1 to Q2, and salmon dishes like salmon curry and salmon artichoke ragout have emerged as client favorites. This new approach brings our commitment to client-centered care to life by listening to our community and using what we learn to provide food that is delicious, health-supportive, culturally relevant, and empowering.
