Home > Volunteer > Walking Delivery

Description:

Volunteers walk around the Tenderloin neighborhood to deliver meals to homebound clients who live close to Project Open Hand’s 730 Polk St. location. Volunteers often help pack the meals in food-safe travel packs prior to beginning their walking route.

Please note that this is an outdoor opportunity. Volunteers must be able to walk several blocks pulling a wheeled delivery bag or carrying a shoulder bag, climb several flights of stairs, and be able to read provided maps and directions. In order to ensure meal quality, bikes and skateboards are not allowed.

Qualifications:

  • At least eighteen (21) years of age.

  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds and climb several flights of stairs or have a helper able to do so.

  • Follow all instructions and directions given by staff, whose main goals are the quality of the meals and safety of clients, volunteers and staff alike.

  • Be able to work well with others and comfortable interacting with a culturally diverse population.

  • Maintain client confidentiality.

Shift Times:
