Cinnamon Cooked Pears

Ingredients

  • 2 pears, washed and diced
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Lemon juice
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp coconut oil 

Microwave Directions

  1. In a microwave safe bowl or plate, add diced pears, cinnamon and salt (coconut oil optional). Cover with a paper towel to prevent splattering.
  2. Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes, stirring the pears every minute to distribute the heat and cook evenly. Cook until pears are fork tender. Add more time as needed in 30 second increments.
  3. Caution: the plate will become very hot in the microwave. Use oven mitts to remove safely.
  4. Add a squeeze of lemon juice. Serve warm.

Stovetop Directions

  1. Add a small amount of water to a saucepan or small pot – just enough to line the bottom.
  2. Optionally: melt coconut oil in a saucepan or small pot.
  3. Add cinnamon, the pinch of salt, and diced pears to the pot. Toss to coat.
  4. Cover with a lid and cook until soft, stirring occasionally.
  5. Cook until the pears are fork tender. Cooking time will vary based on the ripeness – how hard or soft – of your pears.  If the pot begins to look dry, add more water.
  6. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Serve warm.

Tips:

  • Peel the pear for a softer dish, or keep the skin on for a more nutritious dish
  • Dash of cinnamon is approximately 1/8 teaspoon
