Project Open Hand’s kitchen, located just a few blocks from San Francisco City Hall, produces 2,500 nutritious meals with love every day. Our volunteers are an essential part of our team.
Volunteers assist in preparing, packaging, and labeling prepared meals in containers. Rotating volunteer tasks include:
Opening boxes of frozen vegetables and cleaning, cutting and weighing prepared product
Labeling meal trays and portioning meal components based on diet
Assembling trays/raw & cooked protein/veggies/prepared food onto sheet pans
Assembling frozen 7-packs of meals
Assist is the rotation/movement of frozen 7-packs
Fluffing bags and providing support to kitchen staff
Volunteer must
Be at least fifteen (15) years of age.
Practice safe steps in food handling, wear protective gear during entire shift and thoroughly wash and sanitize hands.
Follow all instructions and directions given by staff, whose main goals are the quality of the meals and safety of clients, volunteers and staff alike.
Be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and capable of standing during the volunteer shift.
Be able to work well with others and comfortable interacting with a culturally diverse population.
Maintain client confidentiality.
